CONTACTING THE CREATOR

“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You…”

(2 Chronicles 6:18-19, NKJV)

This is part of King Solomon’s prayer when he dedicated the Temple. King David, Solomon's father, wanted to build the Temple, but God would not allow him to do so. Instead, God promised that Solomon would build the Temple. David provided supplies to build the Temple before his death. Solomon built the Temple, just as God said. After it was completed, Solomon held a great dedication service. At that service Solomon prayed, asking God to hear the prayers offered in the Temple.

God cannot be contained in a place.

Solomon knew that God is infinite. He cannot be contained in a temple. In fact, the entire universe is not big enough to contain Him. The purpose of the Temple was not to contain God, but to provide a place of contact between God and men.

God may be contacted in prayer.

The method of contacting God is prayer. We must talk to Him. He speaks to us through His Word. We speak to Him in prayer. What a privilege it is to communicate with the Creator of the universe!

Today, in the New Testament era, we do not have to go to the Temple. In Christ, we ARE the Temple of God. He dwells within us. We can contact Him any time in prayer.

If you want to WALK with God, you must TALK with God. Talk to Him every day.
