SEEK
There are some things that we should never stop doing. For example, we should never stop exercising. Just because we were in good shape once upon a time does not mean that we can stop exercising now. If we stop exercising, we will get out of shape quickly. We must continue to exercise to remain healthy. The same is true spiritually. We cannot stop seeking God and expect to remain spiritually healthy. Numerous passages in the Bible encourage us to continue seeking God.

MERCY, FORGIVENESS, AND LOVE
The world can be a rough place. At some point, most of us want to be rescued. Sometimes, we need to be rescued from ourselves. We become ensnared in our own failures and need help. Fortunately, God offers help to those who trust Him. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those wh

PROTECTION
"Garbage in, garbage out." There is a lot more to that old saying than meets the eye. In fact, that saying is very biblical. There are several scriptures which tell us that what we look at effects our hearts. King David wrote about this topic in Psalm 101. David's worst troubles began when he watched Bathsheba bathing and desired her. He later repented, but irreparable damage had been done. He learned some very hard lessons. One of those lessons is to be careful what

SPIRITUAL ETIQUETTE
When appearing before an important leader, there are protocols to follow: what to wear, how to address the leader, etc. Even at lower levels of government, there are protocols. For example, coat and tie are appropriate for court. Even for private gatherings, there are certain levels of etiquette. Coat and tie or simi-formal clothing is usually worn at weddings or funerals. There is also spiritual etiquette - protocols for approaching God. He is the King of the universe.

RECOGNITION
Worship is not a passive activity. It is very active. Our mindset during worship is important. As we worship, we should keep our minds focused on God. Many of the psalms discuss in detail the type of mindset we should have as we worship. One of those psalms is Psalm 100. In it, the psalmist wrote: Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. (Psalm 100:3, NKJV) As we worship, we should re

ADORATION
What is your daily routine to begin and end each day? It may include many things, but it should always include adoration for God. In the words of the psalmist: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night... (Psalm 92:1-2, NKJV) Begin and end each day with praise and thanks to God. We should give thanks to God, both morning and night. Giving thanks hono

REFUGE
When life gets tough, where can we turn for refuge? People rely on many things for protection from the dangers of life. The Bible tells us where to find ultimate refuge, a place of safety and peace during the difficult times of this life - God. One passage of the Bible that describes this is Psalm 91. The anonymous psalmist wrote these words: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is m

QUESTIONS
We all have questions. As believers, we love God and trust Him. But sometimes, it seems as if He has forgotten us. Life gets difficult and we wonder, "Where is God?" A man named Ethan had similar questions. His thoughts are recorded in Psalm 89. Although this is a psalm of worship to God, within it Ethan asks some tough questions. God had promised that the dynasty of David would last forever. Yet, because of their sin, David's descendants were defeated, their kingdom l

REASONS TO REJOICE
When someone encourages us to do something, most often we want to know why. Why is a good question. Why we do something is just as important as what we do. Fortunately, the Bible tells us, not just what to do, but why we should do it. One such passage is Psalm 86. In this psalm, David encourages the reader to rejoice, and then gives three reasons why. Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, A

PASS IT ON
In a relay race, runners carry a baton. At a certain point in the race, each runner will pass the baton to the next runner, who will continue the race after them. God's Word is like a baton. It is meant to be passed on to successive generations, who will continue God's work after us. Asaph, an ancient music leader, wrote about passing the Word of God to successive generations in Psalm 78. He wrote: For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, W

PRAY FOR EVERYONE
Today is the National Day of Prayer in the United States, a day in which we focus on praying for the nation. This is a good and honorable practice. But it should not be the only time we pray for our country. The Apostle Paul wrote to his younger apprentice instructions for faith nad for ministry. In his first letter to Timothy, he wrote these words: Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for ki

JUDGMENT
Some ask the question, "If God is good, why doesn't He do something about all of the evil in the world?" The answer is, He already has a plan in place to do just that. Asaph, an ancient song leader in Israel and psalmist, wrote of God's judgment in Psalm 75. Within that psalm, we find these words: “When I choose the proper time, I will judge uprightly." (Psalm 75:2, NKJV) God will judge the world at the right time and in the right way. Final judgment is coming. There are

PATH TO GLORY
Have you ever felt unworthy of God's love? Sometimes we reflect on our own failures and wonder how God could ever love us. But the Bible tells us that He does love us, in spite of ourselves. He is leading us on the path to glory. Asaph discovered this truth and wrote about it in Psalm 73. Asaph was appointed by King David to lead worship at the tabernacle. He wrote several psalms included in the Bible today. When considering God's leadership, he wrote these words: I was

REFUGE
Life is tough. At times it feels like a battle. We need a fortress, a safe place to go where we can find comfort and protection. Psalm 71:3 tells us where to find such a refuge. Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress. (Psalm 71:3, NKJV) Take refuge in God during life's battles. The anonymous psalmist who wrote these words was an older man. He feared being forgotten in his old

PAIN, PRAYER, PRAISE
Many of us tend to praise God after He has answered our prayers. Perhaps we have gone through a tough situation, God answered our prayer, then we praised and thanked God for helping us. But how often do we praise God before He answers our prayers? King David was going through a tough situation. He prayed to God about it. But in the middle of his prayer he said these words: Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say con

MERCY
Have you ever been in trouble, and needed God to help quickly? If so, you are not alone. What did you do during those times? King David recorded such an episode. He was being attacked by enemies, who reproached him. Much of the angst against him was unjustified. David was trying to serve God. But people hated him for it. He needed help right away. He recorded these words, spoken to God at that time: Hear me, O Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me accordin

MOTIVATED
Why we do things is just as important as what we do. Doing the right thing is no good, if we do not do it for the right reasons. That truth is reflected in Psalm 67. The anonymous psalmist wrote these opening words: God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us, Selah That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. (Psalm 67:1-2, NKJV) We should be motivated by love for God and love for others, not selfish desires. The psalm

GLORIOUS PRAISE
Worship is great when your heart is in it. God honors sincere worship. His presence is felt in a special way. That makes us want to worship Him more. It is a very positive cycle. Praising God is the theme of Psalm 66. This anonymous psalm was written to be sung in worship. The psalm commands the listener to praise God, and gives several reasons why. The opening verses set the tone. Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; Make His pra

PROVISION AND PARDON
Have you ever been afraid or hesitant to ask God for something? Maybe you didn't think He would answer your prayer, either because He wasn't interested or because you had sinned. On the contrary, God invites us to come to Him for provision and for pardon. One passage of Scripture that teaches this truth is Psalm 65. In it, David praises God for His provision and pardon. SEEKING GOD
Have you ever been in a spiritual drought? In those times it seems as if God is nowhere to be found. You feel as if your soul will dry up. David felt that way. He wrote about it in Psalm 63. He wrote the psalm when he was in a literal wilderness. But he was also in a spiritual wilderness, longing for God. He wrote these words: O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
