REFUGE

Life is tough. At times it feels like a battle. We need a fortress, a safe place to go where we can find comfort and protection. Psalm 71:3 tells us where to find such a refuge.

Be my strong refuge,
To which I may resort continually;
You have given the commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress.
(Psalm 71:3, NKJV)

Take refuge in God during life's battles.

The anonymous psalmist who wrote these words was an older man. He feared being forgotten in his old age and falling under the growing pressures of life. In spite of everything, he found refuge in God.

He wrote of resorting to God continually. There are many things in life that are not resolved immediately. They take time. We may wonder why God doesn't just take care of them immediately. But, for reasons only He knows, we are allowed to experience struggles in this life. It may be to strengthen us. It may be for other reasons. Whatever the reason, the best thing to do is run to God for refuge.

We find refuge in God when we spend time with Him. Daily prayer and meditating on the Scriptures are means of communicating with God and spending time in His presence. As we do, we find comfort and strength in His presence. We find healing for our wounds and gain strength for the challenges ahead. Just like a warrior could find supplies and safety in a strong fortress, we find our spiritual supply and safety in the presence of God.

Are you finding refuge in God?
