SEEK

There are some things that we should never stop doing. For example, we should never stop exercising. Just because we were in good shape once upon a time does not mean that we can stop exercising now. If we stop exercising, we will get out of shape quickly. We must continue to exercise to remain healthy.

The same is true spiritually. We cannot stop seeking God and expect to remain spiritually healthy. Numerous passages in the Bible encourage us to continue seeking God. One such passage is Psalm 105. In it, the psalmist wrote these words:

Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
(Psalm 105:4, NKJV)

Never stop seeking God and relying on Him.

Seek the Person of the Lord.

The psalmist wrote that we should seek the LORD. Notice LORD is in all caps. This is the English translation of God's covenant name, YHWH. It is the name He revealed to Moses, His covenant name, which is sometimes translated I AM. We must continually seek to know God as He has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. The Bible is the record of God's revelation of Himself to mankind. This is how He has chosen to reveal Himself to us. It is how He wants to be known. He is our Creator, the eternal King of the universe. He is eternal and infinite. We can never know everything about Him. But we can know more and more, when we continue to seek Him.

Seek the Power of the Lord.

The psalmist wrote that we should seek God's strength. We should never try to live life in our own strength. Our strength is limited. We should seek to live and operate in His strength. His strength is unlimited. Just as a battery must continually be recharged, our souls must be recharged with God's power. That is why we must continually seek it.

Seek the Presence of the Lord.

The psalmist wrote that we should seek God's face forever. God's face represents His presence and His blessing. Christianity is not just a religion, a set of rules. It is a relationship with the living God. We need to spend time with Him. The best way to consistently spend time with God is to daily spend time in prayer and meditating on the Bible. Through the Bible God speaks to us. Through prayer we speak to Him. As we converse with God, we get to know Him better and find strength and blessings in His presence. The only way to enter God's presence is through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, who died to pay for our sins and rose again. Faith in Christ is how we begin our relationship with God. After we begin, we need to spend time with God daily to grow in our faith. We need to continue to seek Him.

Are you seeking Him?
