We all have questions. As believers, we love God and trust Him. But sometimes, it seems as if He has forgotten us. Life gets difficult and we wonder, "Where is God?"
A man named Ethan had similar questions. His thoughts are recorded in Psalm 89. Although this is a psalm of worship to God, within it Ethan asks some tough questions. God had promised that the dynasty of David would last forever. Yet, because of their sin, David's descendants were defeated, their kingdom lost. Ethan had questions. In the psalm he wrote:
How long, LORD?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your wrath burn like fire?
(Psalm 89:46, NKJV)
We have questions. God knows we have questions. We should be honest with God and bring our questions to Him in prayer. He will not be offended by our honesty, as long as it is done respectfully.
Ethan recognized God as LORD. He was reverent. Yet, he was also honest about his questions before God. He did not accuse God of breaking His promise. But he asked how long until God turned it around. Within all his questions, he still believed. In fact, he began and ended the psalm with praise to God. Asking questions is not a lack of faith. It is an exercise of faith. We ask the tough questions and trust God to answer.
Take your questions to God.
