ANGRY & AFRAID
And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzza…David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”
(1 Chronicles 13:11-12, NKJV)
In their zeal to bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem, the Israelites put it on an ox cart to carry it. The ark was supposed to be carried by the priests on special poles made for that purpose. Failure to follow God’s instructions in that simple matter caused Uzza to commit a greater sin by touching the ark, resulting in his death. When King David saw God’s judgment on Uzza, he was angry and afraid, and refused to carry the ark to Jerusalem.
When people become angry at God or afraid of God, they avoid contact with Him and miss His blessings. They avoid prayer, Bible study, and worship. They drop out of church and ministry activities. But that is the worst thing to do. We should do the opposite.
Instead of running FROM God, run TO God.
Confess your anger and fear to God. Confess any known sins to God. Seek His forgiveness. Accept that God is right and just in all that He does. Accept that what He does is best. Believe that He loves you and is working all things for your ultimate good. This is a process that may require repeated conversations with God and perhaps a trusted Christian friend, pastor, or counselor. The end result will be a renewed and stronger relationship with God, and a stronger faith.
