SETBACK

Most of us have suffered setbacks, times of defeat and discouragment. If you have never suffered a setback, just wait; your time is coming. Handling setbacks properly is important for our recovery.

David demonstrates recovery from a setback in Psalm 60. He was fighting on multiple fronts and had suffered setbacks on the battlefield. He interpreted these setbacks as a punishment from God. In response, he wrote these words:

O God, You have cast us off;
You have broken us down;
You have been displeased;
Oh, restore us again!
(Psalm 60:1, NKJV)

In this opening verse, we find an important lesson.

During a setback, when you feel abandoned by God, don't run FROM Him, run TO Him.

Although David believed his defeat was a punishment from God, he did not give up on God or rebel against HIm. Instead, he sought God and asked for restoration. That is the proper response to setbacks.

When we suffer setbacks, we are tempted to get angry at God, and run away from God. We try to hide from God and figure things out on our own. That is the worst thing to do.

Instead we should seek God and ask Him to restore us. Even if we are at fault, He will forgive and restore us, if we repent and seek His forgiveness. God is merciful. Appeal to His mercy.

Are you suffering a setback? Seek God's restoration.
