STRENGTH

Have you ever felt far away from God? Have you ever felt overwhelmed? What did you do in those times?

If you've ever had those feelings, you are not alone. King David expressed those same feelings in Psalm 61. In the opening verses of the psalm, he wrote these words:

Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
(Psalm 61:1-2, NKJV)

David felt far away from God. He was at "the end of the earth," far away from the tabernacle in Jerusalem, where the presence of God was manifested as His people worshipped. There are times in life when we feel distant from God. Perhaps we've strayed in some way, fallen into some sin. Perhaps its just a feeling. In those times we must make a decision. Will we seek God, or wander farther away? David chose to seek God. That was the right choice.

David also felt "overwhelmed." Let's face it. Sometimes life gets complicated. We feel it is more than we can bear. We just can't take it anymore. When that happens, we have a choice to make. Will we get angry at God? Will we try to fix it on our own? Will we give up? Will we seek God's help? David chose to seek God's help. That was the right choice.

We can find the strength in God when we seek Him in prayer.

David found the strength he needed in this difficult time. At the beginning of the psalm he felt overwhelmed. By the end of the psalm, he was praising God. Everything changed when he prayed and began to seek God. When we seek God, we will find Him. When we find Him, we will find that He is all we need.

Seek God. Find your strength in Him.
