It is natural to share good news. If your favorite team wins, or if your favorite band is playing in town, you will likely talk about it with your friends and family members. You are simply telling what you know to be true.
To tell what you know to be true is to testify. You already know it. Then you tell it. Very simple.
In Psalm 57, David testified about God's mercy and truth. He wrote the following:
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.
For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
(Psalm 57:9-10, NKJV)
We can do what David did - testify.
Tell of God's endless supply of mercy and truth.
David declared that he would praise God and sing to God among the nations. David was a musician. He wrote psalms to be sung in worship. He also sung songs in worship. Music was his natural form of expression. David declared that he would use that form of expression to testify of God's mercy and truth.
David did not confine his testimony to the tabernacle, or to his own people. He wanted to testify to the Gentile nations also. As a king, David enteracted with people of many nations. He wanted to tell all of them about the good news he had discovered. The good news that God's mercy and truth are endless, reaching to the heavens.
First, he wanted to tell them that God's mercy is endless. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross and take the penalty for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after. He offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who will turn from their sins and put their trust in Him. God can forgive all kinds of sin. His mercy is endless. David wanted to share that good news with others.
Second, David wanted to share that God's truth is endless. In the ancient world, pagan dieties were not always honest. They often tricked their followers and others. Also, the writings of other religions were simply full of untruths. But the God David worshipped is different. He is completely true. His truth applies to all areas of life. David wanted to share God's truth with others.
Have you received God's mercy? Do you believe God's truth? Will you share it with others?
