And he appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to commemorate, to thank, and to praise the Lord God of Israel.
(1 Chronicles 16:4, NKJV)
King David appointed people to “minister before the ark of the Lord.”
They were to minister to God, not men. God was the audience. All songs, prayers, and rituals were for God.
God is the focus of worship. It is all about Him.
We often tend to make worship about us. We focus on the music we like, the style of preaching we like, the accommodations that make us feel good or comfortable. How often do we think about what God wants?
If we focus on ourselves during worship, we become our own idols and our worship becomes an abomination to God.
Instead, we should focus on God. Remember that it is all about Him, not us. Approach God in humility, thanksgiving, and praise. Then God is pleased with our worship, because it honors Him.
