David began Psalm 40 by recalling when he trusted God to answer his prayer during a trying time in his life. God answered his prayer. David stated that others who see this will trust God as a result.
Trusting God in adversity builds our faith and the faith of others.
During times of adversity, the believer will cry out to God for deliverance. The wise believer, like David, will patiently wait for God's answer. This exercise strengthens our faith, because it requires us to trust when it is difficult. Then, when God answers, our trust is cemented. Our faith becomes stronger. We are better equipped to handle adversity in the future.
Others see us. They observe how we handle adversity. When they see us trust God in difficult times, their own faith is strengthened by observing our example. Our adversity may help strengthen someone else, especially someone who may be going through a similar circumstance in their own life.
What trials are you going through? Are you patiently trusting God? Do you know someone who trusted God in a similar situation, whom you can follow their example or seek their advise?
Our trials have meaning and purpose when we patiently trust God.
